English Language Camp at BDVS

The Right to Education means that every child, no matter how poor, has the right to access the best of competencies. In today’s highly technocratic post-modern environment, a basic competency in English language skills is necessary to get ahead.

In line with its vision of empowering the poorest of the poor, Bihar Dalit Vikas Samiti provides an opportunity to children from the disadvantaged communities in rural Bihar to gain fluency in spoken and written English. A better knowledge of English will help these children cope with technical subjects when they opt for higher studies.

The fifth instalment of the Residential English Learning Program for the rural children has already started at the BDVS administrative office at Rukunpura, Patna. It is a 15 day residential program. Eighteen boys and two girls between the ages of 13 and 15 are participating in this ‘English Summer Camp’.

The school going children have been drawn from different rural areas of Bihar like Haveli Kharaghpur, Turki, Barh, and Barbigha.

“The aim of the program is to make children proficient in Spoken as well as written English,” said Fr (Dr) Anto Joseph, Director of BDVS.

This activity seeks to empower the children from Dalit communities by access to skills that will hone academic excellence.
